When she saw him, Rebecca was half-minded to tell him to go away. She didn’t want Steve to see her so broken like this. Why? No idea. Even when she was younger she hated the thought of anyone seeing her in a fragile state, even her brother or his best friend. But as this point she couldn’t muster up the words. Right now, all she wanted was someone to be there for her and Steve seemed more than willing to be.

Without a word she moved her head to rest on his shoulder, her sobs becoming just a little bit louder and even more heartbreaking. Rebecca felt herself struggle to breathe in between her cries which only made the truth more clear: she really did care about her date. She could barely even speak for a few seconds but did, eventually, manage to get something out. “H-He said…I was just another dumb whore.”

Steve heard the words choked out, but he could barely process them. How could anyone say things like that to Rebecca? She was perhaps the best person he’d ever know. The Captain could hardly stand sitting there, wanting to beat up her former date like nothing else. Still, he knew it wasn’t the right thing to do. No, the right thing to do was to stay here and rub Rebecca’s back as she cried to him.

”That’s the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard,“ Steve was blunt about it. He leaned his head closer to her’s and closed his eyes, just focusing on his friend, "That guy’s an idiot, for not seeing how incredible and special you are.” He knew he was terrible at this, but it was still the only thing that Steve could do. He wanted her to feel better as soon as he could get her to.
