The date was supposed to be great. She’d done her hair and make-up perfectly and even borrowed some of Steve’s hidden emergency money to buy a new dress. A smile lit her face as she walked out of the apartment with a goodbye in the blonde man’s direction. Everything was perfect…until she actually met up with her date. Something in him had changed and, well, he wasn’t who she thought. He was verbally abusive towards Rebecca and basically called her every single name in the book. She had to end it early and get the hell out of there before she actually burst at the brim with tears.

Just a couple hours after she left, she was back in the apartment and slamming the door. At this point her makeup was smeared and hair an absolute mess. Eyes glanced to the clock to see the time and she was glad that Steve was more than likely asleep at this point. Good. He didn’t need to know how poorly the date went or he might go Captain America on the dudes ass. Quietly she moved to the freezer and pulled out ice cream, immediately beginning to stuff her face. So much for a dream night.

Steve had elected to turn in early tonight, get up and run like he always did.Rebecca had a date and he was a light enough sleeper that her return or a phone call would be enough to wake him up. Of course, her steps did. Pounding stops of anger and frustration that were not normal from her were a dead giveaway.

When his wits returned to him, Steve finally pulled himself from bed, slipped on a pair of socks and made his way from the bedroom to the kitchen. There she was, drowning her sorrows with sugary ice cream. Without a word, the Captain slid into a chair and put a hand on her back, “That bad, huh?”
